Bike Clinics on National TV

Channel Nine's A Current Affair with Tracy Grimshaw

“My First Bike” was the theme for a special report produced by Brady Halls for A Current Affair. The Channel Nine story was broadcast nationally and produced an amazing response from sponsors and members of the public keen to support the work of the TAD Bike Clinics.

The story featured four young boys attending one of the regular TAD Bike Clinics held at Ryde. It began with Jacob watching from his wheelchair as his older sister rode up and down the driveway at home. The story followed Jacob through his assessment with Winsome and then with Keith, as he was prepared for his first ride. The Ch 9 cameras then captured Jacob’s first tentative ride, and the smile that appeared as he realised what he was able to do.

Jacob’s proud parents were watching, and later when the story was aired on ACA, his Mother Jody wrote “It was absolutely wonderful!! Had heaps of messages and calls about how emotional it was (most women and friends I knew were crying). Every time we take Jacob off of his bike and put him in the car, he chucks the biggest tantrum, lasting all the way home because he didn't want to get off. Thanks again!”

Other boys featured in the story, included Alexander who was being up-graded to a new bike, and Michael and Blake who were having their first assessment.

During the preparation of the story, the following email was received from ACA Reporter Brady Halls: “The story is nearly finished editing and it is terrific. There isn't a dry eye in the edit room. It's a real positive story of little fellas getting one up on their disability thanks to a great team of people at TAD.”

"My First Bike" is now available on DVD. To receive a copy, please send us an email.
