TAD was registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in 1975 as Technical Aid to the Disabled, a company limited by guarantee (ACN 002 042 462).

The volunteer culture of TADNSW has endured throughout the years, with the Board of Directors composed of active volunteers, some of whom still do projects regularly. The Directors are elected yearly by the members at an Annual General Meeting held in October.
