| Overview: |
The Illawarra Branch of Technical Aid to the Disabled was founded in 1983. Great contributions were made in the early years by John Bell and the late Bob Loughlin. The Branch has continued to grow and evolve since this time with the assistance
and dedication of our previous chairpersons, Phil Marvell, Ross Jenkins and currently, Ken Kirwood. In 1998, two of our long-serving and outstanding members, Don Moon and Michael Gregan, were awarded Honorary Memberships. The numerous other skilled volunteers have constructed many innovative items over the years for both children and adults including: bathchairs, wheelchairs for special purposes, switch toys, computer aids, specialised hoists, standing frames, several bike modifications, items to assist leisure activities, and many more.
In March 2006, Computer Loans Service in Sydney took over responsibility of all CLS clients across NSW.
Our Branch continues to provide service and advice to these clients in the Illawarra. We also refurbish and
upgrade donated computers which are sold to the public to help fund the Branch activities. This service owes much to it's success to the generous donations of superseded computer hardware and software, by members of the public and businesses within our region.
The Branch continues to provide assistance to those in the community needing construction of specific items. We encourage all interested people to attend a Branch meeting, as this is a great opportunity to discuss projects with our volunteers and to meet people.
